Mental health carries a stigma that keeps people from naming what they are going through, and keeps the people around them from seeing it.

This triptych tries to render the internal space of someone struggling with anxiety and depression — the intense, unsettling quality of introspection at the point where it stops being reflective and starts being a trap. The intent is recognition: to give a viewer a visual language for what a loved one might be carrying, and a reason to ask.

The series began somewhere else entirely. The original brief was a hand-bound accordion book built around a single song lyric, image on one face and typography on the other, collaged and hand-rendered, bound in a diamond form. The lyric was about the distance between the self you present and the one underneath it. Working through that image, the project kept pulling toward the subject rather than the format — and it eventually became this instead.
